My last Spring Turkey hunt of the year I was blessed with one of the most memorable turkey hunts that I have ever had. It was easily one of the most unpredictable of all my hunts. But providentially, the hunt ended with success, and what a surprise it was to see the characteristics of this mature gobbler.
The most noticeable thing was his crippled foot. My guess is that through the unusually cold winter, this year here in PA, he gradually lost the control of his toes due to frostbite, and, as you see from the picture, started to step over his toes and therefore developing a painful looking calloused pad instead of walking on the ball of his foot.
Another interesting thing about this bird was the crusty particles that clung to the pinfeathers on his neck. I have never seen anything like it.
Over all I was so very blessed to take a mature gobbler after significant hunting pressure, and I have nothing other to thank but God and Mountain Hollow Game Calls.
This hunt will be on Master Harvesters Episode 7 "A Stellar Week" along with my self filmed public land hunt this Thurs 6/4/15!
